Librarians Season 2

Really enjoyed this series last year and I hope that it returns on Canada's Space Channel on the same date, November 1, as in the US.

Librarians follows a team of genius/misfits as they hunt down magical objects that could do serious hard in the wrong hands, before they fall into the wrong hands.

Last year the series was nominated for a Saturn Award, for John Larroquette's performance.

Fall TV 2015

Very few new shows for the 2015/16 TV season, only three this year, and even at that two are rebirths of a series from years past.

ABC brings The Muppets back to their TV roots, in a series that goes behind the curtains of the variety show and looks at the personal lives of our favorite puppets. Both S.H.I.E.L.D.and Once Upon a Time will have their midsason replacements back. January will see the return of both, Agent Carter and Galavant.

CBS adds Supergirl to the list of DC based super-heroes on TV. The trailers and previews make the show look great.

CW keeps bringing us the most genre television out there with seven series this season. The Flash and iZombie start the week on Tuesday. Wednesday is a back to back Arrow and Supernatural night, with nothing to compete with them. Thursday is vampire night with Vampire Diaries and The Originals, then finish the week off with Reign on Friday. They still haven't given a premiere date for Arrow/Flash spin-off Legends of Tomorrow, but we should see it in January at some point.

FOX has had some real success with Gotham and Sleepy Hollow, now they add the TV continuation of the film Minority Report. Based on the work of Philip K. Dick the series follows ten years after the film. More series are set to premier in January along with the event series The X-Files will be; the DC comics based Lucifer and The Frankenstein Code.

NBC Heroes: Reborn is an event series that was set to be a midseason replacement this past season but now the 13 episodes are scheduled for the fall and a few additional cast are back.

American Gods

Neil Gaiman's American Gods is heading to television. The single novel by the famed British author is set to become a series on Starz. Starz has recently captured the essence of Outlander by Diana Gabaldon in a series going into its second season, but where Outlander is a part of a four book series, American Gods is a single book.

The series has only just been greenlit, so no cast have been chosen, but Bryan Fuller and Michael Green are on board as show-runners. Both previously worked on Heroes at NBC and Michael is working on the screenplay for the upcoming Blade Runner sequel.

November 22, 1963

An interesting series is coming to Hulu. From writer Stephen King and J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions, 11/22/63. The title is reference to the day that US President John F. Kennedy was assassinated.

In this event series an unassuming divorced English teacher stumbles upon a time portal that leads to 1958. He goes on a quest to prevent the assassination of John F. Kennedy five years later.

Nick Searcy (Justified) and James Franco (127 Hours) are set to star.

DC's Legends of Tomorrow

In the finale of The Flash on the CW there was mention of a Rip Hunter. Maker of the first time-ship, this is a setup for DC's newest series to air on the CW. Legends of Tomorrow will gather a bunch of character from both Arrow and The Flash and air during the mid season hiatus in January (while no official airdate has been given).

The CW recently released this extended preview of the new series, based off the shot in Vancouver pilot.

World of Warcraft

The World of Warcraft movie finished shooting in Vancouver a year ago on May 18th, but still won't be released till June 10, 2016. Why such a delay between filming? SFX (Special Effects), and a lot of them. The first picture from that process was release showing the results of Robert Kazinsky's mo-cap work.

Could this be the blockbuster of 2016? Only time will tell.

New TV Series 2015

The TV networks have made announcements on what series they are keeping and what they're picking up from pilot.

ABC is going ahead with The Muppets, with all our favorite foam characters and a Biblical saga called Of Kings and Prophets. They're also bringing back SHIELD and Agent Carter, but not the planned SHIELD spin off.

CW has picked up the Arrow/Flash spin off, to be called DC's Legends of Tomorrow. LoT will star Brandon Routh (Superman) as the Atom, Arthur Darvill (Doctor Who) as Rip Hunter a Time Traveler, Dominic Purcell (Prison Break) as Heat Wave, Wentworth Miller (Prison Break) as Captain Cold, Ciara RenĂ©e as Hawkgirl and Victor Garber (Alias) as Dr. Martin Stein.

NBC has greenlit Heroes Reborn as a 13 episode series to follow up on the four seasons of Heroes, that ended in February 2010.

FOX announced a few weeks back that they were bringing back The X-Files, but what else does the network that brought us Gotham have coming for us? The Frankenstein Code, where a pair of twins give new life to a Cop that was killed trying to help his son. Lucifer, yep the Devil himself has a new TV series, this one is based on the DC comic of the same name by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth and Mike Dringenberg. Minority Report based on the Steven Spielberg film.

CBS has the next comic-based series from the people that brought us Arrow and The Flash. Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg executive produce Supergirl that follows Zor-El, Superman's cousin, as she balances her life and relationships with the powers that she has kept hidden for 12 years.

Red Dwarf is Back

The British TV series that originally aired on BBC2 27 years ago will see a revival, again, in 2016. DAVE TV has managed to reassemble the whole cast and co-creator Doug Naylor for shooting later this year.
The shooting schedule will shoot back to back seasons eleven and twelve for airing in 2016 and 2017. At this point we know Dave, Cat, Rimmer, and Kryten are all set to return. Who else we'll see is yet to be determined.

Superhero Infographic

I have been working on various incarnations of this infographic for a while and am finally happy with where it's at. It started off as just a Marvel timeline, then other films got added and it became to messy. Then I realized it just needed to be about the super-heroes movies. I plan to expand this to 2020, but I'll make a new post for that when I do.

Star Wars Force Awakens

A few images from the Star Wars: The Force Awakens. These images were release with the new trailer that came out over the weekend at Celebration. The trailer seems to have overshadowed the images and anyone wanting to get details for Cosplays, these are essential.

John Boyega plays Finn
We see him in a jacket and and dark shirt with pants, we also see him in a Stormtrooper uniform. Is he a trooper that has defected and is on the run, or is he disguising as a trooper?

.

Daisy Ridley plays Rey
There is a belief among fans that she is the daughter of Lieh and Han, therefore she would be Rey Solo or Rey Organa, but that is unconfirmed. The only costume we've seen her in is reminiscent of Luke's tunic on Tatooine, this planet were are told is Jakku.

.
.

Oscar Isaac plays Poe Dameron
Beyond being an X-Wing pilot, we don't know much about this character.

X-files News

David Duchovny was talking again this weekend about the upcoming return of the X-Files. The six-part series hasn't been given an air-date, but its expected as a mid-season filler next January. The limited number of episode is part of what made it appealing to Duchovny.

"Six to me sounds very doable at any walk of my life. It's not a great hardship in terms of time. I would hope it will be successful, I would hope we could continue, but right now, I'm just looking at it, as these six, and then we'll see what happens.

I would never have gone and done another 22 episodes of X Files, but we're going to do six, well, that's like doing a movie. That's like continuing the show in a way that we all can do at this point in our lives so that's it all came about.

Television started to change in that now there are limited runs. I think it's the way the networks have to survive in the future. I think you can attract the talent you want by having a shorter season and you can tell more interesting stories."

Duchovny admits that he may have misspoken when he said recently that Skinner and Cigarette-Smoking Man would be back for the show. Now he is saying that  he's not certain if William B. Davis and Mitch Pileggi will return "I'm not even sure they're signed up yet."

Top Films of 2014

Back in January of 2014 I took a look at what I thought would be the top genre films of 2014. Was I right, was I wrong? take a look below and see how far off I was. (all amounts are in Millions of dollars)

#1 Guardians of the Galaxy $332 I think everyone underestimated this film, I predicted it to fall in the $175 - $190 range and be #13. It nearly doubled that and shook the late summer box-office.

#2 The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 $313 This film did less money than I expected, but only dropped it one spot from where I expected it to be. I was estimating a little over $400. As I said in my 2015 predictions, I think the influx of teen books adapted to the big screen is hurting this markets. I think Mockingjay Part 2 will do just slightly less.

#3 Captain America: The Winter Soldier $259 I predicted $220 - $250 so I was close on this one, I just didn't expect it to be as high on the list as #3, I was predicting #5.

#4 The LEGO Movie $257 This movie came out of nowhere. I put at #14 on my list with a mere box-office total of $159, I was off by $100 and a hugely catchy tune.

#5 Transformers: Age of Extinction $245 Not far off on this one, I was calling for $253 and the #6 spot.

#6 Maleficent $241 Ops did Disney just discover the untapped female market? Not that Frozen didn't and not that men didn't go see this movie, but in a market full of big male dominated blockbusters this film broke the expectations of $100, as a matter of fact I had it doing only slightly better than Edge of Tomorrow (which I was off by $1). It was also off my chart at #17.

#7 X-Men: Days of Future Past $233 I thought this film would fare much better. I thought this would be the #2 film pulling in about $305.

#8 Dawn of the Planet of the Apes $208 I don't think I could have called this one any closer, I called it at $209 and #8.

#9 Big Hero 6 $204 I am so glad I put this on my list last year, this was a film and property that no one had heard of. I called this little know gem to come in at #13 with only $179.

#10 The Amazing Spider-Man 2 $202 If this film had done the $262 I predicted it would have come in at the #3 spot I predicted, but somehow Sony messed up on this one. What did they do wrong? They lost the story and added too many villains, just like Spider-Man 3 (the emo Spidey).

#11 Godzilla $200 Another one I was near enough to being bang on. I called for the #11 spot at $199. I am surprised that we haven't heard Warner Bros. talking about a follow up film.

#12 The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies $198 Yes this film is still in the box-office, and yes it will easily break Godzilla's numbers, but this is just for what it did in 2014. My prediction called for about $20 more and a #7 spot.

#13 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles $191 I really didn't think this movie would do as well. I called for $72 and the #23 spot. This film made the biggest jump vs. my predictions.

#14 Interstellar $180 What a differance 10% can make, that's how much lower this film did from my prediction. Had it done the $199 I had seen, it still wouldn't have made the #9 spot.

So what about films that I predicted and didn't make the top 14? That would be How to Train Your Dragon 2 at #15, from my estimated #4 (biggest fall), and Divergent #16 from #11. The biggest over prediction I made was for February's Vampire Academy that scored a measly 10% of what I was hoping for. Biggest under predictions were Maleficent, at 135% more than what I called for and TMNT at 160% more.

Don't forget to subscribe, and I'll see you at the box-office.

Top 6 for 2016

This maybe a bit premature, but I wanted to take a look at the what is on the horizon for the film industry as I wait for the numbers to be tallied for 2014. I did my Top 15 for 2015 and will do Top 16 for 2016, when the time comes. This is just an advanced look at where the box-office is going.

1) Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice This film will set everything up for the new DC Comics Cinematic Universe; Justice League films, Suicide Squad (#7), Wonder Woman, ect. This film had the audience at Comic-Con 2013 going ballistic. Warner Bros.

2) Avatar 2 Filming started on this recently in New Zealand and like the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings movies, will continue for a while as they shoot parts 2, 3, and 4 back-to-back. James Cameron can do no wrong in the eyes of Hollywood, as his Titanic and Avatar sit number 1 & 2 on the all-time box-office list. Fox

3) Captain America: Civil War Marvel's first film of 2016, (Doctor Strange #9 in November) could see Spider-Man return to Marvel Studio's control, as a share deal is being worked out with Sony. Disney/Marvel

4) Star Wars: Standalone While the making of Star Wars 7-9 has been on everyone's radar for awhile, the news that most people are missing is that between these bi-annual films are a series of Standalone or Solo films. What characters they'll be about hasn't been revealed, but most think they'll be Yoda, Han Solo, and Boba Fett. Disney/Lucas

5) Finding Dory The Pixar movie that everyone have been waiting for. Back under the sea with Nemo, Marlin and the fish that speaks whale, Dory. I think this film will do as much as both of Pixar's 2015 films. Disney/Pixar

6) X-Men: Apocalypse 20th Century Fox returns with the next installment of the X-Men franchise. Weather or not the February Deadpool (#15) movie will lead into this film or not is uncertain, but I'm sure the end-credit sequence will tease something with Apocalypse. Fox

Do you think I'm right, wrong or somewhere in between? Comment below what you think the top films of 2016 might be.
