Filming Christmas

From the Edmonton Sun newspaper:
West Edmonton Mall remains full of the holiday spirit with trees and festive decorations sprinkled throughout as the cast of Christmas in Wonderland kicks into high gear. The holiday flick starring Ray Liotta, Leslie Nielsen and Chris Kattan began filming on location earlier this week.

The movie is about a family lacking in Christmas spirit because they moved away from their American home to Edmonton just days before Christmas.

The younger stars of the film arrived in Edmonton Friday and say they can't get enough of the mall, including Galaxyland and the water park.

"The little girls are so much fun," said Mackenzie Porter, sister of Canadian Idol's Kalan Porter. She plays the role of Shane, the blond bombshell and the love interest of Cameron Bright, who plays Danny. Amy and Zoe Schlagel are two young twins keeping the cast's spirits high. The seven-year-old girls both play the part of Mary, the youngest sister in the family. "I am the most goodest girl in the family," Zoe said about her role of Mary.

In reality, Zoe said she and her sister are both good and bad with a penchant for playing tricks on people. They've been taking belongings from their castmates and hiding them to get a good giggle. Besides being an actor, Zoe says she wants to be an artist, police chief, singer or scientist.
Santa Claus has not made an appearance for the filming yet, but Zoe says she's sure the director will let her know when the big day is approaching. Christmas in Wonderland is due out later this year.

Fire on Batman set

Fire broke out on the roof of the city's vacant former post office Tuesday where a movie crew had been filming scenes for an upcoming Batman sequel.

Fire department spokesman Kevin MacGregor said a building engineer suggested the fire might have started in the ventilation system. He didn't know of any injuries.

At least a dozen ambulances and fire trucks were at the scene, just south of Chicago's downtown business loop.

MacGregor said it was unclear if the fire was related to the filming.

The crews had been filming there all week, said Pete Kearney, who works next door. Letters affixed to the side of the old post office read: "Gotham National Bank."

"We assumed it was part of the movie," Kearney said of the smoke Tuesday morning.

More on Super Max

Green ArrowDavid Goyer has spoken up about Super Max at his , "Is it real? The answer is "YES", " he goes on to say "it's a real project. It's just in the early stages of development, but amongst the tidal wave of super-hero movies hitting the screen, this more classically post-modern take could be pretty damn fun."

Where did the idea come from? "The basic concept actually came about through , a terrific young writer my wife Jessika (a producer) had previously worked with. They thought the idea of a prison-break story set in a jail designed exclusively for super-villains was a cool one. And I heartily agreed. After some discussion, we decided it would be fun to frame a super-hero and toss him into the meta-human mix."

So what super-hero should you frame? "From that point, it seemed like the next logical step was to set the film in either the or . That way, we could populate the movie with all sorts of cool B and C-character Easter Eggs. We eventually landed at DC. , given his hard-hitting, moralistic tendencies, seemed like the most interesting hero to put through the institutional wringer."

Let us know in the comments who you think should play Green Arrow.

Green Arrow is known for his Comic-book inspired movies: movies and , , , . I was really looking forward to his upcoming project, but just as I hear that he and Warner have split over differences there is word of a new project called Super Max. It's Goyer's take on supervillain incarceration in the . Revolving around a wrongly convicted being whisked away to the super max prison for out-of-control heroes and villains, the man is forced to face a number of inmates he put there.
